The Control Award is given to the Team that demonstrates innovative thinking in the control system to solve Game challenges such as Autonomous Operation, enhancing mechanical systems with intelligent control, or using sensors to achieve better results on the Field.
Here is what the judges had to say:
During Autonomous, the multiple control componants detected the colors to consistantly bring the climbers home. Their sensors could detect and energize the rescue beacon like a bird of prey. Aided by their sensors and controls, they were able to soar over their competition and finish in a flame of glory.
Winner: Team 7423, Flaming Phoenix from Kennett Square, PA
2nd Place: Team 7314, Sab-BOT-age 3rd Place: Team 9794, Wizards.exe

PTC Design Award - Industrial design at its best
The intent of the PTC Design Award is to expand the challenge, inspiring Teams to incorporate industrial design into their robots. These elements can be shown in the simplicity of the design as it applies to the tasks, the look and feel of the robot, and how the design allows us to think of robots in new ways. The Design aspect must serve a function but they should also differentiate the robot in a unique fashion not an easy task with a limited set of parts and game challenge.
Here is what the judges had to say:
This team came in with a sharp look, both on and off the field. Despite their name, the team's multifunctional robot was well rounded. When we multiply form by function by aesthetics, we get a perfect cube of robot design.
Winner: Team 8221, Cubix^3 from Hampstead, MD
2nd Place: Team 7423, Flaming Phoenix 3rd Place: Team 5910, Sparks
