Workshop Series

The Build It! and Drive It! workshops are a two-part series to help teams jump start their robot design, build, and programming, as well as providing practice time on the field. Again this season, veteran teams Freire Charter School 5488 Robodragons and Central High School 5320 RoboLancers Gold and 6676 RoboLancers Crimson are joining forces to host and run these events. Mentors and lead students from these schools will work directly with teams to help them prepare for their first Meet or Tournament.

Build It! will be focused on initial robot building and programming.  Bring your parts, tools and laptops!  A full field will be available to test your robot.
Drive It! will continue the build/programming/driving fun with a focus on incremental robot improvements and plenty of field practice.

Workshop

Workshop Overview

On Saturday October 18, 2014, from 9am to 3pm you are welcome to come down to Freire Charter High School for a Build It! Philadelphia workshop and scrimmage. Each team that attends will be assigned a senior and junior team member of the 5488 Robodragons to assist you with your robot building and programming. In addition, for your Build It! experience we are teaming up with Central High School (5320 & 6676) and their mentors. They will also be available to assist you in whatever your team’s needs are. There will be a snack bar open that will have snacks, drinks, and a pizza lunch for sale. If your robot is field -ready, there will be a fully functional FTC Block Party field for your use.

Why come

The Robodragons are a 4-year veteran team. We finished first in the inaugural city series meet last year and qualified for the Pennsylvania State Championship. We are a team of 25 strong that have experience in the various parts of robot design, programming, are competition tested, and have been through umpteen rounds of judging.

How can you get here

There are 2 parking garages (Park America & Patriot Parking) at 2101 Sansom St. that have good rates and are very close. If you are driving down 21st street, crossing Chestnut, then make your first right onto Sansom St. Patriot Parking on the left has an early bird special for $10. Park America is on the right.

Street parking is $5 for 2 hours. For teams in the city, there is a trolley stop at 22nd and Market and a variety of buses that stop on our block. For teams coming from the suburbs, the regional train lines stop at Suburban Station, from which is a short walk to our school.
